  • A NEW KENDRICK LAMAR ALBUM IS ABOUT TO DROP, ACCORDING TO SPOTIFY

  • Prepare the hype machine: Spotify has revealed details about a surprise new Kendrick
Lamar album set to be released tomorrow (March 4).
The album is apparently dubbed untitled unmastered and features eight songs, all untitled and dated. Each track appears to be from 2014, except one from 2013 and another ranging from 2014-16.
The album details are currently viewable on Spotify, but the stream isn’t playable (yet). According to its listing on Spotify’s mobile app, however, it will be released on Friday via Aftermath, Interscope, and Top Dawg Entertainment.

News of the surprise album comes only days after TDE’s CEO Anthony Tiffith teased fans with the label’s 2016 releases, saying, “Ive decided 2 drop a project 1 day this week. I won’t say…”
Kendrick has a history of debuting untitled, unreleased songs during televised performances. In the past year and a half, he’s performed untitled tracks on The Colbert ReportThe Tonight Show, and, most recently, during hisperformance at the Grammys.
In an interview with grammy.com and 2 Dope Boyz last month, Kendrick revealed he has a “chamber” of unheard material that didn’t make his album cuts.
“You see all these performances on these late night shows — I got a chamber of material from the album that I was in love where sample clearances or something as simple as a deadline kept it off the album,” he said. “But I think probably close to ten songs that I’m in love with that I’ll still play and still perform that didn’t make the cut.”
If released, untitled unmastered would be the follow-up to last year’s Grammy-winning To Pimp a Butterfly. See the new album’s purported artwork below.
