Sony
Music has continued to make strong progress in what is becoming a
clear-to-see recruitment strategy. “Go to West Africa; sign the biggest
artists; make loads of money”.
In the
last 18 months, Sony has signed Davido, Ayo Jay and Wizkid (more on
Starboy in a moment) and it doesn’t look like they are done just yet.
The newest act to join the label is Davido’s producer, Shizzi.
Shizzi
and Davido have an excellent working relationshp, although it's worth
mentioning that Shizzi is an artist in his own rights. The musician is
probably best known for his single "Dami Duro" and he played a key role
in producing Davido's latest single "Gbagbe Oshi".
Reports
have confirmed that not only has Shizzi been signed to Sony, but he’s
now going to be based in the States. However, don’t expect an
announcement just yet because it seems as if Sony have been keeping
their cards close to their chest.
Despite
sources confirming for the world that the label had signed another
Nigerian superstar, Wizkid, for a record-breaking deal, the label has
refused to confirm the deal in an official statement. According to
well-placed sources, Sony is determined to give Davido and his EP “Son
of Mercy” enough attention before announcing the Wizkid deal.
