For as long as most Nigerians can remember, Ebenezer Obey has been an iconic figure.
His Juju music was the soundtrack of several generations.
For many, his music is the ultimate trigger for many pleasant childhood memories. Whose father didn’t play an Obey record on Saturday morning? Who didn’t dance to an Obey tune at birthday parties and other social gatherings?
It was therefore understandable to see the excitement of the One Lagos Fiesta crowd at Victoria Island as the legendary musician stepped on stage on Day 7. They were completely captivated. Memories flooded in.
At 74, Chief Ebenezer Obey, fondly called the Chief Commander, is no spring chicken.
However, the passing of time has not robbed him of the gift of music or the sonorous voice with which he sings. Coupled with the exceptional delivery of his band (comprising of backup singers and instrumentalists that have been with him for several decades).
It was a once-in-a-life time experience for thousands of the audience members.
